Motion before motivation
Action, even small and clumsy, produces the feeling you were waiting for.
The idea
We tend to think motivation produces action. It often works the other way around. Action, even small and clumsy, produces the feeling of motivation.
Why it matters
If you wait until you feel like it, your mood becomes your manager. Discipline is not forcing yourself through misery. It is noticing that the first five minutes are the hardest, and that the feeling improves once you move.
The shift
From "I'll do it when I'm motivated" to "I'll begin and let motivation catch up."
Try this today
Pick one task you are resisting. Set a timer for five minutes, promise yourself you can stop afterwards, and begin. Notice what happens to the resistance around minute three.
Reflection question
What is the smallest action that would count as starting?
Write your answerPart of: Build discipline, Build better habits
Keep going
The two-minute start
Any task can be reduced to a version small enough to begin right now.
Courage is a small step
Confidence is built from evidence. Small brave acts are how you collect it.
Done beats perfect
A finished imperfect thing teaches you more than a perfect thing in your head.
